  12. FLOPPY DISK DRIVES ONLY
  13. To use MS-DOS floppy disks in AccessPC-compatible Mac drives, drag the ~AccessPC and ~AccessPC Data icons to your System Folder, then select the Restart command in the Finder's Special menu.

  15. REMOVABLE CARTRIDGE DRIVES ONLY (But not Bernoulli Drives)
  16. To use MS-DOS cartridges in Mac SyQuest or Ricoh removable hard disk drives, or in Sony, Ricoh, MaxOptix/Tahiti or M.O.S.T. magneto-optical drives:

  18. 1. Drag the Multi-Driver icon to your System Folder, and drag the INIT icon for your drive (if any) out of the System Folder. (Multi-Driver will substitute for your old INIT. If you have both Multi-Driver and your old INIT in the System Folder when you start up, you may encounter problems or even a System Error.) Then Restart your Mac. Once you've made certain that your drive works properly, you can go on to install AccessPC as in step (2), below.

  20. 2. Drag the ~AccessPC and ~AccessPC Data icons to your System Folder, then  restart your Mac. AccessPC will work with both your cartridge drive and with any compatible floppy disk drive you may have.

  22. IOMEGA BERNOULLI DRIVES ONLY
  23. To use MS-DOS Bernoulli cartridges in a Mac Bernoulli drive, you must have the Iomega "Driver" INIT in your System Folder. AccessPC works with "Driver" to recognize and mount DOS cartridges on the Desktop. However, only the primary partition is reported to AccessPC by the "Driver" INIT, so only the primary partition can be mounted. To install AccessPC, simply drag the ~AccessPC and ~AccessPC Data icons to your System Folder, then select the Restart command in the Finder's Special menu. AccessPC will work with your Bernoulli drive and any compatible floppy disk drive you may have.

  26. AccessPC is able to mount MS-DOS formatted disks and cartridges in the following drives:

  69. TRANSLATING FILES REQUIRES OTHER SOFTWARE
  70. AccessPC can be used to assign MS-DOS files to be opened by Mac applications, but does not change the contents of the files. To convert files you'll need to use a translation utility such as MacLinkPlus by DataViz, Apple File Exchange, or Word for Word by MasterSoft/Software Toolworks. AccessPC makes these programs easier to use because they can get access to files on DOS disks or cartridges directly.

  72. LIMITATIONS OF RUNNING IN FINDER VS MULTIFINDER
  73. If you use AccessPC with floppy disks alone, you can ignore this section. If you will be using  MS-DOS cartridges, you may need to start up your Mac in MultiFinder in order to have enough 'System heap' memory available for AccessPC to mount a large MS-DOS volume. If you're running in the Finder, and the Finder says that an MS-DOS cartridge is unreadable, it may be that you haven't installed the Multi-Driver document in your System Folder. If you HAVE installed it, and restarted your Mac, then the problem is probably insufficient System heap space. Try setting your Mac startup drive to "Start up with: MultiFinder" instead of with Finder. (Use the Finder's "Set Startup..." command to do this, then restart your Mac with the "Restart" command.)

  75. CARTRIDGE RE-FORMATTING NOTES
  76. (This section concerns cartridge drive users only; it doesn't apply to diskettes or Bernoulli disks.)
  77. You can use the Media Formatter application to re-format cartridges for SyQuest, Ricoh, or magneto-optical drives. If you run into problems, here are some tips for resolving them:
  78. (1) If a "Full" format doesn't work, try the "Normal" format first, then try the "Full" format command again. (Most users will never have to use the "Full" format command, because cartridges are pre-formatted with the equivalent of a Full format by the manufacturer.)
  79. (2) Don't make more than 16 partitions in a cartridge.
